APX HAS THE LEADING RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ALL-GENERATION TRACKING TECHNOLOGY

APX provides complete coverage for renewable energy certificate (REC) creation, management, and transactions across North America to facilitate the continued growth of clean energy generation and usage. With the ability to create unique, serialized records for every megawatt hour of energy, both renewable and non-renewable, APX registries provide the greatest market and product transparency, accountability, and protection against double-counting.

State-mandated Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) require a specific percentage of the electricity that utilities sell to come from renewable resources, driving the nation’s $64 billion market for wind, solar and other renewable sources. These policies play a vital role in states’ efforts to diversify their energy mix, promote economic development and reduce emissions. APX systems also support All-Generation Attribute/Information Tracking Systems for regional or state initiatives where tracking both renewable and non-renewable generation, including emissions and load served, is required.

The North Carolina Renewable Energy Tracking System launched on July 1, 2010. NC-RETS issues, tracks and enables trading of Renewable Energy Certificates and Energy Efficiency Certificates for the North Carolina Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS). The NC-RETS system enables North Carolina utilities to track their compliance with the NC REPS.
The NEPOOL GIS, established in July 2002, issues and tracks certificates for each MWh of generation produced in the ISO New England control area, including imports from adjacent control areas, and all load served. In addition to the generation, the NEPOOL GIS provides emissions labeling for the New England load serving entities by tracking the emissions attributes for generators in the region. In recent years the NEPOOL GIS has adapted to the various state RPS laws to track combined heat and power, demand response and conservation and load management certificates.
NYGATS is an online certificate-tracking system that records information about all electricity generated, imported, and consumed within New York State. Registered NYGATS users can trade, retire, or verify and substantiate ownership of RECs to support compliance or voluntary claims. NYGATS also serves as the platform for applying for Renewable Energy Standard (RES) certification under the New York’s Clean Energy Standard.

The Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System creates, tracks and enables trading of environmental credits through a  unique, traceable digital certificate issued for every megawatt hour (MWh) of  qualifying energy generated by facilities registered with MIRECS or imported  into MIRECS.

With the incredible growth in the compliance-driven and voluntary REC markets, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the demand for transactions of RECs between tracking systems. APX provides the framework and operational expertise to ensure that these transactions are seamless and trusted.

From certificate-only transactions, (where only the attributes of the REC are moving from one system to another) to bundled transactions (involving both the energy and attributes), APX is the leading expert in the field. APX has worked closely with stakeholders and policy makers to build robust infrastructures and we’re continuing to expand transaction capability between an increasing number of state and regional systems.
